Sinibotia robusta, also known as the Kansu Loach or Chinese Golden Zebra Loach:

Species Overview

  • Scientific Name: Sinibotia robusta
  • Common Names: Kansu Loach, Chinese Golden Zebra Loach, Robust Loach
  • Family: Botiidae
  • Origin: Southern China and parts of Vietnam
  • Size: Up to 10 cm (4 inches)

Habitat & Behavior

  • Natural Habitat: Moderate to slow-flowing rivers with sandy or rocky substrates
  • Behavior: Social and active; best kept in groups of 5 or more
  • Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be feisty with conspecifics

Appearance

  • Body Color: Golden-brown with horizontal striping on the head and dark vertical bands along the body
  • Fins: Dorsal and caudal fins have dark bars; pectoral fins are translucent yellow
  • Body Shape: More compact than other Sinibotia species, with an elongated head

Aquarium Care

  • Tank Size: Minimum 90 cm length recommended
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 20–26°C
    • pH: 6.5–7.5
    • Substrate: Smooth sand or gravel
  • Setup: Provide hiding spots with rocks, driftwood, and subdued lighting
  • Special Note: These loaches are jumpers—ensure a tightly covered tank
