Crenicara filamentosa, commonly known as the Lyretail Checkerboard Cichlid, is a captivating species native to the Orinoco and Negro River basins in Colombia, Venezuela, and Brazil. These fish are known for their distinctive checkerboard-like pattern and elongated shape.
Lyretail Checkerboard Cichlid grow up to 9 cm (3.5 inches) in length. They thrive in well-planted aquariums with soft, acidic water and plenty of hiding spots, such as driftwood and leaf litter. These fish are relatively peaceful and do well in community tanks with other non-aggressive species.
In terms of diet, they enjoy a varied menu of high-quality sinking pellets, vegetarian flakes, and frozen foods. Live foods like daphnia are particularly beneficial for conditioning them for breeding
