Blood Red Hi-fin Red Swordtail (Xiphophorus helleri)

Description

Blood Red Hi-fin Red Swordtail (Xiphophorus helleri) is a striking and popular livebearer known for its vibrant red coloration and elegant fin extensions. Here are some key details about this fish:

  • Appearance: This variety boasts a deep, saturated red color with dramatic fin extensions. Males have a distinctive "sword" on the lower part of their tails
  • Size: They typically grow to about 2.5-3 inches (6.3-7.5 cm) in length
  • Habitat: Native to Central America, they thrive in well-planted aquariums with plenty of swimming space
  • Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 30 gallons is recommended. They prefer water temperatures between 64-82°F (18-28°C) and a pH of 7.0-8.0
  • Diet: Blood Red Hi-fin Swordtails are omnivorous and will eat high-quality flake food, pellets, and frozen or freeze-dried foods like tubifex and bloodworms
  • Behavior: They are generally peaceful but males can be territorial, so it's best to keep them in groups where females outnumber males
