Purple Vampire Crab

Description

The Golden Vampire Crab, also known as Geosesarma dennerle, is a small freshwater crab species native to Indonesia.

1. Temperature: Maintain a tropical temperature range of 75-80°F (24-27°C).
2. Minimum Size Tank: A tank with a capacity of at least 5 gallons is recommended for a small group of Golden Vampire Crabs.

Feeding Habits: Golden Vampire Crabs are omnivores, and their diet should include a variety of foods such as high-quality crab or invertebrate pellets, algae wafers, small live or frozen foods like brine shrimp, and occasional fresh vegetables.

Habitat Preference: These crabs originate from tropical forested areas with access to both land and water. Provide a terrarium setup with a mix of aquatic and terrestrial environments. Incorporate hiding spots, driftwood, and live or artificial plants.

Water pH Level: Maintain a slightly acidic to neutral pH level in the range of 6.5-7.5.

Behavior: Golden Vampire Crabs are known for their interesting and active behavior. They are semi-terrestrial and will spend time both in the water and on land. Provide a shallow water dish for them to submerge and ensure a secure land area.

Social Behavior: While not strictly shoaling or schooling, Golden Vampire Crabs can be kept in small groups, preferably with a male-female ratio. Monitor for any signs of aggression.

Nocturnal: Golden Vampire Crabs are primarily nocturnal, meaning they are more active during the night.

Bottom Dweller: These crabs are bottom-dwelling species and will spend a significant amount of time on the substrate.

Color: Golden Vampire Crabs have a distinctive golden or orange coloration, with some variations depending on individual specimens.

Additional Details:

  • Breeding: Breeding Golden Vampire Crabs may occur in captivity, but specific conditions may be required.
  • Maintenance: Regular water changes and maintenance are crucial for the health of these crabs.
  • Compatibility: Avoid keeping with aggressive or significantly larger tankmates.
