Their gentle temperament makes them excellent companions for small tetras, rasboras, dwarf cichlids, Corydoras, and other peaceful tropical species.

Quick Facts

Scientific Name: Carnegiella strigata

Common Name: Golden Hatchet Fish

Size: Approximately 2.5cm

Adult Size: Up to 4.5cm (1.75")

Temperament: Peaceful

Care Level: Easy to Moderate

Diet: Omnivore

Minimum Tank Size: 20 gallons

Temperature: 24-28°C (75-82°F)

pH: 5.5-7.5

Schooling: Yes, keep in groups of 6+

Feeding

Golden Hatchet Fish readily accept high-quality flakes, micro pellets, and frozen foods. Because hatchetfish are excellent jumpers, a tightly fitting lid is essential. Dark substrates, driftwood, and tannin-rich water help replicate their natural habitat and bring out their beautiful golden tones.

Compatibility

Golden Hatchet Fish are ideal for peaceful community aquariums and coexist well with:

Tetras

Rasboras

Corydoras

Apistogramma species

Small peaceful gouramis

Other non-aggressive community fish

Avoid housing them with large, aggressive, or highly boisterous tank mates.

Why We Love Them

✔ Unique hatchet-shaped body
✔ Beautiful golden coloration
✔ Peaceful community fish
✔ Active surface swimmer
✔ Excellent addition to Amazon biotope aquariums

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0837/5104/3390/files/placeholder_59d07062-3911-4601-907e-0c693f2adf90.png?v=1790972229
