These fish are a variant of Pterophyllum scalare or possibly a distinct locality form of Pterophyllum sp., often prized for their wild-type appearance and genetics.

 Key Characteristics

  • Origin: Santa Isabel, Rio Negro, Brazil
  • Type: F1 (first-generation from wild-caught parents)
  • Appearance: Typically more elongated with sharper dorsal and anal fins compared to domestic strains; coloration can include vertical black bars and a silvery or golden sheen.
  • Behavior: Peaceful but territorial during breeding; intelligent and social.

Care Requirements

  • Tank Size: Minimum 30 gallons for a pair; larger for groups.
  • Water Parameters:
    • Temperature: 78–84°F (25.5–29°C)
    • pH: 4.5–6.5 (soft, acidic water preferred)
    • GH/KH: Very low hardness

 Breeding Tips

  • Pairing: Allow a group to form natural pairs or acquire a proven pair.
  • Spawning Conditions:
    • Soft, acidic water is crucial.
    • Use vertical surfaces like slate or broad leaves for egg-laying.
    • Dither fish (like tetras) can help reduce aggression and encourage bonding[1].
  • Parental Care: These angelfish often exhibit strong parental instincts, guarding and fanning their eggs.
