Orange Pumpkin Shrimp (Neocaridina)

Description

Neocaridina is a genus of freshwater shrimp commonly kept in aquariums.

  1. Temperature: Neocaridina shrimp, including Orange Pumpkin Shrimp, thrive in a temperature range of 65-78°F (18-26°C). It's essential to maintain a stable temperature within this range to keep them healthy and active.

  2. Minimum Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 5 gallons is recommended for Neocaridina shrimp. Larger tanks provide more stable water parameters and allow for better maintenance.

Feeding Habits: Neocaridina shrimp are primarily scavengers and omnivores. They feed on biofilm, algae, and organic debris in the aquarium. Additionally, they can be fed with a variety of commercially available shrimp foods, including algae wafers, blanched vegetables (like spinach or zucchini), and specially formulated shrimp pellets.

Habitat Preference: Neocaridina shrimp prefer a well-planted aquarium with plenty of hiding spots and surfaces for algae growth. They are adaptable to various substrates, including gravel and sand.

Water pH Level: Neocaridina shrimp prefer a slightly alkaline to neutral pH range of 6.5-7.5.

Behavior: Neocaridina shrimp are generally peaceful and spend their time foraging for food. They are known for their vibrant colors, and their behavior can be entertaining to observe.

They are social but can also be kept individually. Keeping them in groups can enhance their well-being and encourage natural behaviors.
Neocaridina shrimp are primarily bottom dwellers, exploring the substrate for food and finding hiding spots among decorations or plants.

Color: The Orange Pumpkin Shrimp, as the name suggests, typically has an orange coloration. Neocaridina shrimp come in various colors, including red, blue, yellow, and green, depending on the specific variant.

Other Details: Regular water changes are essential to maintain water quality. They are sensitive to fluctuations in water parameters, so it's crucial to keep stable conditions.

Avoid the use of copper-based medications in the aquarium, as it is toxic to shrimp.

Always ensure that the water conditions are suitable and consistent for the specific type of Neocaridina shrimp you have, as different color variants may have slightly different care requirements.
